Seri Keningau Works

Tuesday, 14 March 2017
After completing my diploma, I went to work for Seri Keningau Sdn. Bhd. — a growing food company that owns several restaurants in this country. I worked as their in-house graphic designer and social media admin at their headquarter for 5 months before pursuing my degree. Below is a compilation of some of the works I had done during my employment.

Note: Red is the theme colour of this company so you'll be seeing a lot of it. I definitely had a good time myself because it's my colour. ;)

ArchiDigma & Co.

Friday, 29 January 2016
As a part of our college assignments for the course entrepreneur, we had to create a mock company and sell products or services during an event held at our college. After some discussing, we decided to name our organization 'ArchiDigma & Co'. As the graphic designer, I held the responsibility of providing graphic works which include the official company logo, and flyer and bunting design for the event.

Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Wacom tablet
Typeface: Aleo, Mossy

I didn't want to spend too much time for these, so I came up with a simple logo (which was done in 5 minutes before class started LOL). The flyer was more fun to do as I had doodled each of the items shown. I kept all the designs very minimal and achromatic, with a hint of red because it's my favourite colour it represents passion – a trait that architecture students have in common. Also, it was easier to do it in achromatic, so that we could cut down cost for printing as colour prints are damn expensive.

The Morning Show with DSB6B

Wednesday, 2 December 2015
One of the projects we had to do as a requirement for the course 'architecture communication' was to organize a programme. Our group had collaborated with a lecturer to host a programme called 'Morning Show' where students compete by showcasing their talent. I was appointed as the graphic designer and had to come up with some graphic works for this programme.

This programme was an inter-class competition where each class from each semester had to compete with each other. The final was conducted at the biannual Archinight dinner and fortunately, my class was announced as the champion with their performance of The Cup Song by Anna Kendrick. Congrats, DSB6B! Couldn't be any prouder! :D

Archi Club Works (Dec 2013 – June 2015)

Tuesday, 24 November 2015
I'm eager to announce that I have just completed my final semester for diploma! :D

Results just came out and it is a relief to say that I WILL be graduating! I was freaking out for a moment, thinking that I might had failed a course and had to return to retake it. Thank God.

So what's next? Maybe degree, maybe work first. We'll see about it. ;)

* * * * *

For the entire 3 years I was in college, I'd been involved a lot with my course's very own architecture club. I started getting involved during the 3rd semester when I happened to lend a hand by providing graphic works for our biannual dinner – 'Archinight'. From there, the club advisor recognized me, and in my 5th semester I was officially elected as the vice-president and continued on as the secretary in my final semester.

During my involvement, I did a lot of graphic works for club use and events. We did not have many students who were capable in using Photoshop and doing graphic works, so naturally the responsibility was given to me.

Here is a compilation of the works I've done throughout the years.

December 2013 Session

December 2013 session's work can be found in a separate post: Archifest Dec 2013

December 2014 Session

During this semester, I was elected as one of the two vice-presidents of the architecture club. Despite holding such position, I ended up doing mostly secretarial and graphic-related works due to some circumstances. The first task I had to do was producing the organization chart. It can be seen that there are lots of empty spaces where the faces of mentioned people should be found. Unfortunately, there was a bit of technical problem (hint: unreliable dickwads who didn't do their job as asked) and it was long overdue, so I just printed out what I had before the lecturer kills me. Hence, the missing faces. Sorry guys.

The biggest highlight was the biannual Archinight dinner for the programme. All graphic works for the event were done by me, without help. I swear I almost died doing everything on my own — even going to the printing shop and typing each of everyone's names into the certificates. /crey It was a still a fun experience regardless being super exhausted after the event ends.

Honestly, that's quite an overwhelming number of fonts (and also colours) used in the certificates. But I couldn't object as they were orders. /crey

June 2015 Session

Upon the start of a new semester, a whole new board was elected. I continued being in the club as the secretary, as new members took over our previous positions. I only had one work to do this semester, which was to produce the organization chart. Fortunately the new board members were filled with talented graphic designers, so I no longer had to worry about handling the graphics on my own.

~Goodbye~

I've gotta admit that I'm soooooo gonna miss being a part of this club! I really did enjoy doing all the works, organizing events and such. As a student, honestly, I wasn't doing very well academically. So I used this as an opportunity to display and brush up my skills, and throw my name out there. Through this club that I was recognized by lecturers. Though at one point I was nagged by my academic advisor for focusing too much on 'outside activities' than on my own academic projects haha.

In the end, all of my hard work was recognized, as I was awarded 'The Most Committed and Dedicated Student' by the end of my studies. I was really moved by this gesture. I realized I wasn't one of the bright stars so I really put in effort, getting involved in various activities and such so that I wouldn't feel like I am worthless. I thank all of my lecturers for recognizing my effort and struggle throughout the years, even when I earned such an average GPA.

To me, the lesson I've learned here is that don't be too quick to give up despite what a single piece of paper that contains your GPA tells you. You may be struggling in some aspects, but that doesn't mean you can't shine in another way. Use your weakness as a tool to gain strength. As long as you put in effort and take on opportunities, you're somebody worthy. :)

JKE Posters

Friday, 9 May 2014
I was contacted by a lecturer from the electrical department at my institution after being recommended by another lecturer, who happened to be the supervisor for the previous robotic competition I participated. They commissioned me to do some posters for their presentation. It was unexpected, but I'm glad that lecturers are recognizing me, thanks to the competition. :)

MIRoC 2014; My Laptop Died!

Thursday, 24 April 2014
Tragedy struck as I was trying to submit my work when my beloved laptop suddenly froze and I had to force shut down. As I restarted it, it went directly to recovery mode and I wasn't able to boot normally. Oh no. Tried everything in my power to save my baby but alas, I had to have it formatted. To worsen the situation, for the whole semester I had not backed up my files due to the fact that I had switched to a new laptop (Time Machine wasn't working properly). So basically, all of my files, my works most importantly that I had done the whole time this year are gone. ALL GONE. Including the poster design I was working on for an upcoming competition which was due in the next day. Lord knows how much pain this is causing me as my laptop means everything to me. My heart sank every time I think of my lost files.

Still going through self-recovery after what happened. Currently trying to fix my Time Machine so it can be used on this new computer. Lesson learned, never ignore data back ups no matter how much you claimed you are 'busy' (capital L Lazy). ;_;

Anyway, after fixing my computer, I struggled to redo the poster design within the night, as I had to submit it before noon the next day. Thank Lord I was able to retrieve the initial design from an email attachment that I had sent to the lecturer. Fortunately I managed to finish it up and print it out by noon!

After the competition, I received a call from the lecturer telling me that we only won Silver. Lecturers were actually expecting to win Gold for this poster since last year they had won Gold. It was okay for me though, at least we had won something. It was my first time in a national competition anyway so I feel very lucky that I still managed to help win a place, yay. :)

Archifest Dec 2013

Saturday, 22 March 2014

I was called to be a part of the committee for architecture department's upcoming event — Archifest. During meeting, when asked who's skilled enough to handle Photoshop to design the poster, I reacted. Previously I had always feel unsatisfied with the posters they had came up with because they weren't presented well and were lacking necessary information. So I decided to volunteer and became a part of the multimedia committee. The job was given to me and within the next day I presented them with my design.

It was very fortunate on my part as the lecturer a.k.a chair person loved my design; she was really impressed by how fast I worked and how well was the job done so she promised me a position in the architecture club in the following semester (yay!). Following this, I received an ovation from the committee and became the only 3rd semester student amongst the 5th and 6th semester students dedicating most of my time for this event in the last few days before the day of the event.

It was very tiring even when I only worked for 4 days, because I had to run here and there and stayed at campus up until 2AM to take care of things — not to mention the hot weather practically already sucked out half of my energy. So on the day of the event, I woke up with a flu. Yay. ;v; But anyway, it was still quite fun as I managed to work along with my (*cough* cute) seniors and get closer to them. :)

Climber's T-shirt

Friday, 27 December 2013

Tools: AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop

Amidst being hectic from working on my first architectural project for this new semester, I managed to squeeze in a commission from my friend into my tight schedule. A good friend who was a classmate of mine in high school asked me to do a t-shirt design for the Climber's Club which he is a part of. I don't think I have done a t-shirt design before this so this would be my first time.

As someone who still (sadly) can't figure out how to use Illustrator, I decided to make use of my knowledge in using AutoCAD to aid me in doing the 'volumes' (the colourful triangular shapes). I then transferred the shapes I had drafted in CAD into Photoshop and splashed in colours. The figure was traced from a reference pic that was given to me.

Queenland Grocer Brochure

Friday, 8 November 2013
Just a very, very quick brochure design. It's for my friend's assignment; I'm just helping her to do the design for the brochure. It's a tri-fold brochure, printed on front and back.

Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS5

A sloppy work because I needed to get done with it quickly (my friend was rushing), so I barely had time to fix whatever that needed to be fixed. Contents were all given, I just copy pasted everything and composed them altogether as a brochure.

Food Stickies

Saturday, 2 November 2013
Some VERY QUICK food stickers I made for my sister and her friends for their food sale project thingy majiggy.

Donut sticker.

Fried macaroni sticker.

Ice-blended Ribena sticker.

Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS5, Wacom Bamboo

I actually enjoyed drawing these food so much! Because I was so stressed out from working on my architectural project that I decided to ignore my project for one night and treated this as a stress reliever. Worth it. :P

I even — jokingly — made random instavideo tutorials on how to draw the donut and the macaroni haha. View the videos here:
