Silver Lining

Tools: Acrylic on canvas
Canvas size: 8" x 10"

A semi-realistic acrylic painting I made in April last year. I still cry at my inability to blend colours effectively. sigh.jpg

Parrot

Wednesday, 6 April 2016

Tools: Acrylic on canvas
Canvas size: 8" x 10"

Another semi-realism acrylic painting from me. Sadly the colours did not blend really well, especially on her skin. :( Still need to work on my acrylic skills. Also, I need to stock up on more colours and some mediums.

This painting was meant to be gifted to a friend. Not sure if she even remembers about it haha. Hope she'll love it. :)

“I only ask to be free. The butterflies are free.”

– Charles Dickens

Tools: Acrylic on canvas
Canvas size: 11" x 14"

(Note: The beautiful small A5 art print on the cork board beside the canvas is an illustration done by one of my favourite digital artists – kiDChan.)

I had kept this canvas for so long on the shelves, unfinished. Nearly two years. Procrastination at its best! I had been incessantly working on my computer for awhile when I caught myself a flu and refused to stare at the screen for another day. So I finally took out my painting tools and finish it up.

I've had several experiences working with acrylic but this is actually the first time I've ever done a semi-realism portrait using this medium. Second time with canvas painting. I honestly didn't know what to expect at first but I'm glad the end product turned out well for me. Still need to work on my skills though.

Nowadays I'm more into digital painting compared to traditional but once I've picked up my brushes, I thought I should do it more often! Though once I'm done and had to clean up, that's where I hesitate. Pressing 'Cmd+S' and 'Cmd+Q' on my Mac are a lot less hassling than having to clean the brushes and palettes. Not to mention mixing and matching the colours take some effort. Capital L lazy!

Angel Choker

Saturday, 12 December 2015

Tools: Staedtler Mars Lumograph graphite pencils (6B, B, 2H)

The choker was based on a picture I found through Google. Love the angel detailing on it.

Dayah's Twintail

Thursday, 10 December 2015

This was when I just submitted my final project and I had been itching to draw something in months. My textured paper sketchbook wasn't around so I took over my friend's sketchbook and redrew one of her character in my own style. Thanks Dayah for lending me your sketchbook. :-*

Type-hair-graphy

Tuesday, 8 December 2015

Inspired by Kendall Jenner's photo on Instagram where she had her hair shaped into hearts, which I love so much. It IS the most liked photo on Instagram after all. Instead of just hearts, I put in my name.

This was drawn on the front page of my architecture sketchbook — which was to be filled with sketches of buildings and cityscapes as a part of my college assignment, by the way. Sent in the sketchbook and my lecturer actually signed and wrote 'very nice'. Lol, awwh. :)

Mural @ Tun Razak Library

Tuesday, 5 November 2013
Few months ago, I was offered the opportunity to join in a charitable project where I have to do a mural at Tun Razak Library in Ipoh, Perak. I hesitated to join at first because as an architecture student, I didn't want to struggle with time. But my friends persuaded me so I accepted in the end — and I did not regret it. I think I would've lost a huge opportunity if I turned away from this project because it had given me such a worthy experience, not to mention a notable addition to my portfolio hehe.

At the beginning of the project, I worked along with, I think, roughly 12 other students from Ungku Omar Polytechnic (where I'm studying at); who actually also participated in the International Visual Art Competition (IVAC) early this year. Since we are only a bunch of students, we ended up taking a long time to finish up the mural — which is about 2 months.

The thing that kinda frustrates me is that, halfway towards the end, half of the people that initially worked on this project went MIA. I understood that everyone was busy with studies but hey, we gotta finish up what we started. We must remember that we were commissioned by the commissioner so we gotta be responsible with what we were supposed to do. So I, along with only a small number of people (about 5), ended up sacrificing our time and worked our butt off to finish up the mural.

The area we had to work in is the children area. Here are some photos of the finished product:

Squid drawn by En Shuk, the guy who invited us to work on this mural together. He was also one of the guides who had helped us during IVAC earlier this year. He owns Garage Studio (go like the page on FB!) — a printing / graphic design service company located near to our campus. He's been very helpful to us in giving us opportunities such as this project and also in giving advices for our studies so many thanks to him. :)

Nemo a.k.a clownfish by my classmate, Syafiq Sam. Touch up done by this particular amazingly skilled art teacher. Looks fantastic!

An unfinished patrick star. Haha no it's just a starfish. I added the eyes (they're button badges) and called it patrick star. I insisted on drawing green pants on it but that's just impossible haha. Done by classmate, Nurul Fhatiha.

Stingray drawn by a classmate, Hidayah. She's a fellow artist who also likes to draw anime girls. :)

The section I and another 2 people were in charge of doing. Guess which turtle is mine??

Turtle also drawn by Hidayah, located at top right. She called this a 'cross-bred' of a turtle and a whale, because her turtle looks like a whale. Haha!

Bottom right turtle drawn by another classmate of mine, Nurul Asyiqin; helped by another classmate, Nurfarhanah. I also helped out to finish up this turtle.

Aaaand this is the turtle I painted! The middle one. I used a random picture I found on Google as a reference so credits to the owner! It took me a long time to finish up this turtle. I had no idea on how to paint a turtle on the wall or even how to work with mural paints so it was very frustrating at first. But I'm glad I managed to pull it off in the end eventhough it's not perfect. :)

This is me working on the turtle, photographed by En Shuk.

Tiny me and my humongous turtle. :)

The hardest part of this project. I wasn't in charge of this section but I was one of the few who ended up finishing up this section. So I deserve some kudos lol. You can see how imperfect this section is, it was actually supposed to be more complicated but we faced some difficulties like getting sabotaged, also we were running late and we were already so tired. So we just give it our all and just did what we managed to do.

I'm so glad the project is finally done! Eventhough it isn't the best work but I felt very lucky to be given this kind of opportunity. It's very exciting to think that my artwork is being displayed in a public place. I hope the children will get inspiration when they look at my turtle hahah. :)

Rai

Sunday, 15 September 2013
As the end of my second semester as an architecture student is approaching, I get busier and busier than ever. I am currently working on a few projects simultaneously and my current biggest project is an individual project on designing a retreat house.

It's saddening to see that my artblog became left untouched for weeks, up to a month. But this weekend I have a bit of time to spend for myself as I get four days of holiday, so, to compensate for the lack of update, I will just post some old artwork I've done in the past.

This is an old piece I did during my SPM year. I was taking an approach to 'semi-realism' before I started to practise realism.

The original pencil drawing. I then decided to paint on a photocopy of this drawing (because I don't want to ruin the original drawing in case if I fail miserably when painting it).

DeviantART: reysuke-chan.deviantart.com/art/Rai-262190071
Tools: A4 sketchpad, Buncho watercolour

The photograph shots were actually taken long time ago and were uploaded to my deviantART and Facebook account. I haven't exactly had the chance to post all my previous works on this blog but I will do it when I have small chances like this.

Since the shots were taken using only my iPhone, the details were killed. Not that I exactly mind though 'coz my painting quality isn't that great anyway lol.

I used a picture of Aishwarya Rai as a reference to draw some of the facial features on this drawing. I wasn't exactly drawing her so don't expect this drawing to have any resemblance towards her.

A Pop of Hitomi

Monday, 3 June 2013
A friend of mine gave me a blank artist canvas, asking me to paint something for him. I deliberately accepted it because I had never painted on a canvas before so I took the chance. I was so excited to try it out!

I already had the idea to paint one of my quite-known original character, Hitomi. It took me a while to figure out what kind of painting I should do until I decided to do a pop-art-ish kind of painting.

Tools: Acrylic paint on canvas
Size: I forgot the exact measurement of the canvas but it's somewhere a little larger than A2

It took me almost a year to finish it up. Lol! Technically it didn't exactly take that long to paint it; probably only a week from the accumulated days. I was short of tools plus, I started college when I was halfway done with the painting so I had to put the painting on hold for a looong time because I got so busy with my studies.

Overall, even if the quality of the painting is quite poor, I am quite contented with the final product. It is my very first canvas painting after all and I am never exactly good with traditional media. I wish I had more pretty acrylic colors to work with (I kinda dislike mixing the colours) and proper tools. Nevertheless, I enjoy doing it and I wish to do more canvas painting in the future whilst sharpening my traditional media skill.

The painting had already been sent to my friend and I'm glad that he loved the painting. :D I actually enjoyed doing this so much that I'm even considering giving away free canvas painting to those who appreciate newbie artworks. :)

Me, Illustrated 2

Saturday, 1 June 2013

Tools: Smooth A4 paper, charcoal, graphite pencils
DeviantART: reysuke-chan.deviantart.com/art/Me-Illustrated-2-377222179

First time using charcoal! I realized 8B graphite wasn't 'black' enough so I decided to try out charcoal. It wasn't really easy using it because it gets so messy, but I like how it made the drawing stands out because of how pigmented it is compared to graphite.

The clear mistake I made here is that I used a hot pressed paper (smooth) instead of cold pressed ones (textured). Well I was using graphite and only changed to charcoal halfway through it. Looks like I have to get myself a new sketchbook with textured papers, since I'm so used to buying the smooth papered ones.

Redjuice's Hot Ice

Wednesday, 15 May 2013

Was bored late at night so I randomly sketched one of Redjuice's artworks, 'Hot Ice'. Of course it doesn't look as good as Redjuice's, I'm not Redjuice. I'm only his wife. :P

Nadhira Aqilah

Tuesday, 5 March 2013
A portraiture of my friend Nadhira Aqilah which I did last year.

Tools used: A4 sketching paper, Staedtler Mars Lumograph sketching pencils
DeviantART: reysuke-chan.deviantart.com/art/Nadhira-Aqilah-357834151

I think this is the best portraiture I've done so far. :D Ever since I did this piece, friends were lining up to commission me their portraitures haha. But I still haven't exactly had the time to finish them up. I still got probably about 8-10 more of portraitures to do lol, sorry you guys. Gambarimasu. ;v;

Bloodthirsty Shiru

Wednesday, 16 January 2013

Tools used: Sketching pencils, 0.3 Uni Pin graphic pen, A3 drawing paper

This is a drawing I made for the subject Architecture Graphics Presentation in college, where I had to do a movie poster for our typography assignment.

I got the inspiration to draw this from Redjuice and Shirow Miwa. I know it doesn't look like any of their styles at all but when I drew this I was thinking of both illustrators heh. As you can see, I made the poster all about Redjuice. Haha. The movie is entitled 'Redjuice' and the main character is named 'Shiru', which is another alias for Redjuice. And the release date for the movie is on Redjuice's birthday — 16th May. I also put Redjuice's real name as the director, and 'Supercell', which is a group that Redjuice works under becomes the film producer. :)

I used one of Redjuice's drawing to draw her clothes because I don't really know how would a shooter's clothes usually look like. I screwed up with the proportion of the weapon, I know. It ended up being smaller. I'm not really used to drawing weapons anyway. I'll try to improve. ^_^"

'Redjuice' is about a 17-year-old girl named Shiru, whom despite her gender and young age is a bloodthirsty prodigy sniper, whom is infamous in battlefields and whom name ignites terror when mentioned. 'Redjuice' refers to the red-coloured liquid called blood.

I'm getting to really like this character I drew so I was thinking of making her one of my official original characters. :3

P.S: Not trying to plagiarize Redjuice's name or anything because this is only a college assignment and I only happen to be a huge fan of Redjuice. ;)

2010 drawings

Sunday, 14 October 2012
Because I'm severely lacking update for a month now on my website (and to life) due to a) I was away in another country for a week at the end of last month, and b) as I got back I was ill for more than a week so I couldn't do anything much; so I'm posting these really old drawings I've had scanned from 2010 just for the sake of an update. :)

Deviantart version: http://reysuke-chan.deviantart.com/art/Little-creature-155178459
For some reason this is one of my favourite drawings. :)

Elf. :) I really like drawing 'magical' creatures with pointy ears.

Please ignore the fact that she kinda looks naked.

I actually wanted to fabricate this dress for a certain occassion but nah, had forgotten all about it.

I love spies. I was a little girl who watched a lot of Totally Spies and Kim Possible, and daydreamed about becoming a spy just like in the TV shows. :)

I really have awful colouring skill, that's why I rarely colour my drawings. If you can't see the drawing clearly, she's playing in the water. I'm also very bad in drawing backgrounds. "Orz

Ye ol' fanarts

Saturday, 25 August 2012
For some reason, I don't normally do fan arts but that doesn't mean I would never do it. Here are some old fanart drawings I did way back in 2010. :) Ceh, sounded as if it's a long time ago. But my style did change a lot compared to then. ;)

Hatsune Miku fanart is a must! I love Hatsune Miku a lot and despite that she sounds robotic and can't be compared to a real human voice, I still love listening to songs sung by her a lot, especially those composed by supercell, Livetune, Okame-P and, some others. :) They can be extremely good!

Hyuuga siblings — Aoi and Natsume, from the series Gakuen Alice. Love reading the manga! And Natsume is one of my favourite characters from this series. There's an anime version too, but it's only for a short 26-episode, unlike its ongoing, more elaborate manga.

And lastly, also from Gakuen Alice — Ibaragi Nobara. :)

Scarlet 六Roku

Tuesday, 31 July 2012
I didn't have much time to do sketches this month because I got so busy with my sister's wedding on the 7th and 14th, and then there's Ramadhan... and, well, many other stuff. Basically, July was really hectic.

But I did manage to give birth to a brand new Original Character of mine — Scarlet Roku (stylized as Scarlet 六Roku).

I will be putting up a proper profile about her soon. :)

It's Camille Co

Friday, 29 June 2012
A simple portraiture sketch of one of my favourite fashion blogger, Camille Co!

I fell in love with this particular photo of her, and decided to do a portraiture practice with it. But my hand completely ruined her beautiful expression in that photo. I don't think this drawing resembles her at all. Sigh. :(

I'll try to get better in the future...

Aunty Leilanie

Friday, 8 June 2012
This is actually the second time I did a portraiture for her and this is the second time I screwed it up. =_=" Omg sometimes I think I don't have the skill at all. Orz

Btw, she's Emillio's mom.

Alodia Gosiengfiao

Sunday, 3 June 2012
A simple portraiture practice of my favourite idol, Alodia Gosiengfiao. ♥

It's not a perfect portraiture of her and I didn't even put much details in this sketch; but I'll work on my skill and I hope I'll get better in the future. :)

I used this adorable picture of her as a reference: http://blackmagealodia.deviantart.com/art/Newspaper-Girl-85871885

Though I didn't draw her perfectly, I hope there is still some resemblance, haha.

Tricia Gosingtian

Friday, 1 June 2012
A simple portraiture practice of my favourite blogger / photographer, Tricia Gosingtian. ♥ Go on and visit her site, you'll want to linger around for long. It's got tons of beautiful pictures she has taken herself and her travel posts are probably the best!

It's not a perfect portraiture of her and I didn't even put much details in this sketch; but I'll work on my skill and I hope I'll get better in the future. :)

I think it doesn't resemble her that much haha. "Orz
